Moscow Ballet and NextVR to broadcast Great Russian Nutcracker Live in Virtual Reality

(Berkshires, Mass.) Nov. 28, 2018 – Moscow Ballet and NextVR have teamed to bring fine arts audiences the Great Russian Nutcracker live in virtual reality, marking the first-ever full-length live VR broadcast of professional ballet. Audiences will be transported in VR to the front row without leaving the comfort of their homes, giving them the opportunity to experience the acclaimed performance in a way it has never before been seen.

The Great Russian Nutcracker will be broadcast live in VR on Wed., Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. EST as a simulcast via both in NextVR and Oculus Venues apps exclusively on the Oculus Go and Oculus Gear VR platforms/headsets. NextVR will utilize the company’s patented VR technology for a fully immersive 3D experience. Oculus Venues will leverage its social VR platform, allowing audience interaction in a VR theater environment. In either case, the event will tantalize VR audiences with all the sounds, lights and energy of really being there.

The show, which will be performed at Western Michigan University’s Miller Auditorium in Kalamazoo, features 34 professional Russian dancers, WMU’s 70-piece orchestra, the Kalamazoo Children’s Chorus and a youth cast of 53 local children.

At the conclusion of the live broadcast, the full performance replay will be available on-demand via the NextVR app on Oculus Go and Oculus Gear VR for 30 days and then released to other platforms thereafter. NextVR is a free app available on all major VR platforms, including Playstation VR, Oculus Rift, Oculus Go, Oculus Gear VR, Google Daydream and Windows Mixed Reality. Oculus Venues by Facebook is a free app available on Oculus Go and Gear VR platforms.
