Tony Hawk Resurrects The Loop for Live Broadcast in NextVR

Skaters Attempt The Loop in Live Virtual Reality Event on 8/26 at 3:30pm PT

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., August 14, 2018 – NextVR, the leading technology platform for broadcasting live events in virtual reality, will broadcast Tony Hawk’s Loop Challenge LIVE in virtual reality at 3:30pm PT on Sunday, August 26.

The only way to witness this must-see event is in virtual reality. NextVR will place approximately eight VR cameras along the loop for the live 3D stereoscopic broadcast. Fans will be fully immersed when they’re placed at the drop in and at the peak of the loop. Tony will be joined by Corbin Harris who will offer up the play-by-play of each attempt of the skaters.

“The ability to let people experience The Loop in virtual reality changes everything,” said Tony Hawk, professional skateboarder. “Only about 15 people have ever completed the loop, so the chance to have a VR camera place you in the loop is incredible.”

The first time Tony saw a loop was in a magazine at the beginning of his career which left an impression on him he would never forget. He always knew it was possible and made several attempts to determine the perfect design. So, what’s the key to making it around the 360-vertical loop? Physics. The way skaters make it around The Loop is similar to a gravitron ride. Skaters gain enough momentum to stick to the track of The Loop. The drop in to The Loop stands at 14 feet, the complete track is 16 feet long, and the overall look mirrors a Hot Wheel’s loop. The height of the top of the ramp will have skaters going approximately 13 miles per hour, which is the perfect speed to complete the challenge.

“Tony has spent his entire career pushing the limits of action spots and this event is no different,” Danny Keens, VP of content at NextVR. “In this partnership with NextVR, fans to experience skateboarding in an entirely new light. Fans have a totally unique perspective by being placed beside The Loop to witness some of the greatest skateboarders complete the death-defying ramp.”
